Sometimes I'm confused in which country I'm in or if the whole population of Germany is in China.. Every other person I meet is german or at least speaks deutsch...During my stay in Nanjing I spent nearly two weeks among germans so I'm already becoming an expert in deutsch! :D
For me Nanjing was more like an escape from the travelbubble because I didn't have to stay in a hostel more than a few nights. I got to stay at the University hotel for free, so most of the time I hanged around with Martin and the other germans. I also made friends with a local girl Q Lee and learned a lot about the history and lifestyle in Nanjing. The city is really historical but personally I'm not that interested in museums and temples, so for me it was more like another big city in China.
Mostly we chilled out, sat in parks and enjoyed Tsingtao. Karaoke is quite interesting with 10 germans, two bottles of brandy and a few beers :D We also visited the Purple mountain, which actually wasn't that amazing... It was a small mountain (448m highest point) and the scenery was quite poor because of the clouds and fog.
During the next few days both me and Martin got severely ill so we weren't able to do anything for almost a week. Suffering from high fever and irritating cough I got a bit scared that it would be something serious and rumours about Schweinflue were running in my head. Finally I got better but Martin was still ill, so we had to delay our journey to Huangshan. Fortunately we only lost one day and 64yuans each, and got to leave Nanjing on friday evening after getting my visa and new traintickets to Huangshan. Eight hours in the train wasn't so tempting due to the lack of energy and stomachache (didn't eat that much for several days), but I was excited to get back on the road again!
