Mongolia. Id call it a bit of a failure on our part. We didnt really get anything out of it scenery- and culturewise, which are definitely the main reasons to be here. We arrived in Ulaanbaatar a couple of days ago and this is how it went:
Plan 1 - Buy train tickets to Beijing
The international ticket office was closed so we went straight to Golden Gobi guesthouse.
Plan 2 - Extend our transit visas by a week in order to tour around Mongolia.
Yeah, After taking one look at the picture albums and hearing some traveller stories we wanted to stay.
Plan 3 - Transit visas cant be extended so train ticket to Beijing.
So we went to the immigration office only to find that out.
Plan 4 - Get tourist visas for a month and tour for 20 days, living with nomad families, riding horses and camels and enjoying scenery.
Plan 5 - Get the train tickets to Beijing FAST before our transit visas expire.
And thats the plan we on now since they wouldnt give us 30 day visas, reasons unknown to anyone.
So we arent very happy about missing out on Mongolia, it really sparked our interest in a way we never thought possible, but its not like we aare leaving empty handed. We met loads of interesting people, experienced the Ulaanbaatarian(?) nightlife and got extremely valuable tips on travelling in China.
So with our sights set on Beijing and a spring in our step we set off early tomorrow morning towards new adventures. One things for sure though, we'll be back to experience what this amazing country has to offer!
Oh yes! We would like to inform all our faithful readers that Blogspot and Facebook are banned in China.. so dont be surprised if you dont hear from us in a while. (Im pretty sure we'll break that law though :) )
Until next time!
